PA decides to call Province 5 Lumbini, with Bhaluwang as its permanent capital

BUTWAL:- The proposal to name province 5 as Lumbini and permanent capital Bhaluwang has been passed by a two-thirds majority in the provincial assembly.

In Tuesday’s vote, 79 votes were cast in favor of naming the province Lumbini, while four votes were cast against it.

Similarly, 69 votes have been cast for the proposal to have a permanent capital Bhaluwang while 13 votes have been cast against it.

The state government had submitted a proposal to the state assembly on September 29 to merge Rapti and Gadhwa villages and Shitganga municipality of Arghakhanbhi with Lumbini and Bhaluwang Bazaar of Dang as the permanent capital.

The main opposition Nepali Congress had opposed the proposal to keep Bhaluwang as the permanent capital of the state and had also sabotaged the state assembly on Monday. The Congress had called for a vote against the capital proposal.

But in Tuesday’s vote, Nepali Congress lawmakers crossed the floor against the party’s Hripip. Because even though the Congress has 19 MPs in the state assembly, only 13 votes have fallen in the opposition.

There are 61 MPs of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, (NCP) in the state assembly, out of which Speaker Purna Bahadur Gharti did not vote. Similarly, Janata Samajwadi Party has six members and Rastriya Janamorcha has one.

The convention of the provincial assembly has come to an end with the decision of the name and permanent capital of the province.
