Over 1300 stranded Nepalis return home on Wednesday

Altogether 15 chartered flights were operated from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Wednesday alone rescuing 265 Nepalis from Dubai and 151 from Doha in Nepal Airlines aircraft.

KATHMANDU: Altogether 1,313 Nepalis stranded in various countries have returned home today alone in chartered flights.
In the wake of lockdown ordered to contain the spread of COVID-10, the government in Nepal had launched evacuation operations on a priority basis to bring back Nepalis rendered jobless and affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in several countries across the globe. Altogether 15 chartered flights were operated from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Wednesday alone rescuing 265 Nepalis from Dubai and 151 from Doha in Nepal Airlines aircraft.
Similarly, the Himalaya Airlines flew home 154 Nepalis and two dead bodies of Nepalis from Dammam in Saudi Arabia. A total of 154 Nepalis were repatriated from Abu Dhabi, 39 from Bagdad of Iraq. Altogether 36 passengers had flown from Kathmandu to Iraq in the same aircraft. Likewise, 251 Nepalis were airlifted to Nepal in Qatar Airways, 138 in Etihad Airways, and 161 in Fly Dubai, according to the press statement issued by the TIA.
The repatriation flights would be conducted on Thursday as well. Furthermore, seven domestic flights were operated today to different destinations. Tara Air and Summit and Simrik Air’s aircraft and Kailash’s helicopters flew to various destinations.
