Only female of Province 1 vying for UML CCM


By Birat Anupam,ITAHARI:- Menuka Kafle is the only female Chair among 137 local levels of Province 1, who is vying for the post of Central Committee Member in the 10th National Congress of CPN (UML). The three-day-long convention is starting from Friday in Chitwan.
Kafle is the Chair of Kamal Rural Municipality of Jhapa. She is also the National Vice-President of National Association of Rural Municipality in Nepal (NARMIN). Kafle leads the All Nepal Women Association (ANMA) Province 1 Committee.
”Many friends and party representatives told me to field my candidacy for CCM”, said Kafle, ”I have decided to field my candidacy for the female quota of Province 1.” There are six CCM quotas for Province 1. Among them, two are for women.
Kafle, who was attracted towards active politics during student movement of 2036 BS, was actively involved in underground politics since 2042 BS during the Panchayat regime when political parties were banned in Nepal.
She was elected to the post of the Kamal Rural Municipality Chair in the first local level elections held in 2017, since the promulgation of the new Constitution in 2015. RSS
