N24 Staff Writer, KATHMANDU: The Public Procurement Monitoring Office (PPMO) in an official notice, has blacklisted the Omni Business Corporate International, popularly known as Omni Group, for one year.
The Omni Group was awarded with the contract to supply various medical equipment and logistics to control the coronavirus (COVID-19) by the government in April this year. The Omni Group had to import masks, virus test kits, PPEs and other medical equipments from China.
The contractor had guaranteed to bring medical equipment within a week in three installments after it signed the deal worth Rs 1.24 billion. However, various controversial statements were issued by the media while deal was being signed. It was observed that Ministry of Health awarded the contract to the group without bidding.
Moreover, department had suggested to blacklist Omni earlier in April after the failure to supply the medical supplies as per the contract. While, a meeting of the Public Procurement Monitoring Office (PPMO) held in September, five months after the department’s suggestion, decided to blacklist Omni for one year.
