KATHMANDU:- Obstruction by locals at Sisdol in Nuwakot district to allow dumping of the garbage collected from the Kathmandu Valley has been cleared finally after the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and the affected locals sorted out the issued through dialogue on Friday.
The Teachers Management Struggle Committee and locals of Sisdol Landfill Site had been taking to street since March 26 putting forth various demands and obstructing the dumping of the garbage collected from the Valley for the past eight days.
The protesting locals and KMC mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya reached a conclusion to address the demands of the locals following which the locals agreed to lift the obstruction created for dumping garbage.
KMC mayor Shakya pledged to fulfill the demands of the protesting locals after calling the meeting of the executive’s meeting. Shakya said that further discussions could be held regarding health related demands.
He was of the view that the locals should be clear whether they want a health facility to be set up in the affected area or the affected locals to avail the healthcare facilities in Kathmandu through the recommendations of the wards.
The Sisdol Landfill Site has been a dumping site for garbage collected from 18 local units in the Valley since 13 years.
The locals nearby the landfill site have been demanding that the KMC should bear expenses for 51 teachers from the affected site for their temporary vacancy and to forward the process of requisition of land by forming a team comprising the experts among others. Bajagain reassured, “The garbage of Kathmandu Valley will be collected from today and be brought to Sisdol today itself.”
Kakani Rural Municipality-3’s chairperson Ghananath Bajagain shared that they agreed to lift the obstruction after the authority concerned agreed to fulfill their demands.
