SYOSSET, New York (AP): A congressman has called on the government of Nepal to investigate the death of a New Yorker who had married a Nepalese man and moved in with his family.
The Embassy of Nepal said Tuesday its government is expediting the process.
Rep. Steve Israel is assisting the family of Bhoomika Kochhar Jatia (boo-MEE’-kuh KAH’-chahr JAH’-tee-uh).
The body of the American citizen was found June 15 in Katmandu (kaht-MAHN’-doo), Nepal.
According to her relatives, who live in Syosset (sy-AH’-seht), N.Y., her husband’s family has stated that she committed suicide. But they have unanswered questions.
The Kochhars emigrated to the United States from India. The Long Island congressman is also asking the Indian government if there’s any way it can assist the family.
