NSU defers general convention to concentrate for November polls


KATHMANDU: In a bid to concentrate on the upcoming elections of the Constituent Assembly (CA), the Nepal Student Union (NSU), the student wing of Nepali Congress has postponed its general convention slated for September 14 to 16.

Issuing a press statement on Thursday, chairperson of NSU Ranjeet Karna informed about the postponement of the convention for a time being with the view of concentrating on the upcoming CA election.

Karna said the NSU took such decision as per the consultation with its mother party the Nepali Congress. The 11th general convention was prorogued with mother party’s run-up in the nomination of party candidates for the November 19 elections.

The press statement further said that the convection was put off as conferences in some districts, campuses and universities are yet to be held.

Stating that the new date for the convention will be fixed soon, the NSU has directed all its cadres to hold conferences in the remaining campuses, universities and districts.

Despite opposition from 33-political parties including Mohan Baidya led CPN-Maoist political parties have geared up preparations for the November polls. The parties however said that they are continuing their efforts to bring disgruntled 33 parties on board.
