NSU calls off valley bandh after TU called them for talks


KATHMANDU: The Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) has called off the Valley Bandh program it has announced for Thursday after Tribhuvan University has invited the agitating student unions for talks.

The Nepali Congress (NC) affiliated Nepal Students Union (NSU) had called for a general strike in Kathmandu Valley tomorrow to protest against the postponement of FSU election. The NSU had been staging demonstration against the deferral of the FSU elections which was earlier slated for June.

The meeting of Executive Council of TU held on May 30 had postponed the election. The election was postponed after it was revealed that there were fake admissions being administered by the student unions to increase their votes for the elections.

However, spokesperson of the NSU, UP Lamichanne claimed that the bandh was withdrawn considering its impact on the people at large but added that other program of protest would continue as planned.

This is the third time the announced bandh was withdrawn considering the outrage of public. Earlier, student unions have called their proposed bandh against the appointment of former Secretary Lokman Singh Karki for the post of chief of Commission of Investigation of Abuse of Authority and the alliance of 33-political parties protesting the CJ led government also rolled back their protest programs.
