NRNA welcomes agreement to provide voting rights to NRNs


KATHMANDU: The Federal Socialist Party (FSP) and High Level Political Committee have agreed to provide voting rights to Non Residential Nepali. Both the sides have agreed to promulgate a new law to ensure participation of NRNs in the election.

Meanwhile, the founder of NRNA Ram Pratap Thapa welcomed the decision reached between FSP and HLPC. “The NRNs became happy with the news that parties have agreed to formulate law to provide voting rights to NRNs. It would be great if they could ensure participation of NRNs in the upcoming elections of the Constituent Assembly,” Thapa added.

Many people of Nepali origin have reached from Japan, Korea, Malaysia, UAE to Europe and America for study and in search of better opportunities. Earlier, major political parties like UCPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have called for ensuring participation of NRNs in the election and the Election Commission has also conducted study visit to analyze feasibility of participation of NRNs in the electoral process.

The study of Election Commission showed that around three million people are staying in third countries. The EC however reached to the conclusion that it would not be feasible to incorporate NRNs in the electoral process for the time being.
