Noted litterateur Mukarung bags Madan Prize; Mukarung gives credit to novel’s issue and characters


KATHMANDU: Noted litterateur Rajan Mukarung has bagged the prestigious Madan Puraskar for his novel ‘Damini Bhir’ of Nepali language.

A meeting of Madan Puraskar Guthi that convened in the Capital on Saturday made the decision to award ‘Damini Bhir’ with the prestigious yearly award, said Guthi member and journalist Kunda Dixit. “Mukarung has been selected for the award for vividly depicting the lives of marginalized Nepalis and making special contribution to Nepali novel literature,” said a statement issued from the Trust.

Born in the hilly district of Bhojpur in east Nepal Mukarung is active in Nepali literature since long. ‘Damini Bhir’ is a novel that depicts the circumstances, psychology and practices of Nepali society during transitional phase. Mukarung expressed happiness for being awarded with the prestigious award. He also informed that rather than him, the issue raised in Damini Bhir and characters of the novel got the award.

Similarly, Jagadamba Shree Puraskar 2069 has been given away to Ratna Shumsher Thapa for contributing to Nepali language by writing songs and poems for the past five decades.
