NOC staffer organize strike against detention of senior officials of corporation


KATHMANDU: Taking frail law and order situation of the country, there have been rise in the cheatings in almost every sector. The strike announced by officials of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) is a case in point. The Eastern Regional Depot of NOC has halted its transaction in protest against the arrest of four top officials of NOC.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Tuesday arrested four employees of NOC including Managing Director Suresh Kumar Agrawal on the charges of distributing bonus to NOC staffers in the violation of the Bonus Act- 1974.

Employees of the Eastern Regional Office and office-bearers of different trade unions demanded immediate release of all the arrested employees.

They also warned of halting the distribution of the petroleum products completely at the depot until the release of arrested employees.

The petroleum products are being distributed to 16 districts of the eastern region from the depot. There are around 200 petrol pumps in the eastern region, it is learnt.

NOC, the state-run petroleum monopolist, has been facing loss of millions of rupees every year but the cash-tapped corporation distributed bonus from the operational profit in 2008. The government has been providing money from the state coffer. Staffer of the corporation has been taking various facilities even if the corporation is facing huge loss every month.
