KASKI: Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ishwor Pokhrel on Saturday said unlike in autocratic Rana and Panchayat regimes, no one should face displacement and imprisonment for exercising their right to freedom of expression.
“Now the country is at a state of affairs unlike in the past. All has freedom of association and political assembly. But criminal activities with political support are not spared from action,” he said while addressing a discussion programme with the theme of ‘current economic structure and journey of prosperity’ organised here by the Madan Bhandari Foundation, Kaski, on the occasion of the 70th establishment day of the Nepal Communist Party.
He said that the country would be ushered towards development and prosperity as the first year of NCP-led government had laid the foundation for development.
He said, “Now onwards the politics would be for prosperity, the models of the development would be as per the manifesto announced during the election. The general public would soon be able to feel the development taking places all over.”
Similarly, former Minister and NCP leader Janardan Sharma underscored revamping the bureaucracy and argued no prosperity would be realized until the bureaucracy was reformed or revamped.
Stating that the bureaucracy was being facility-oriented lately rather than service-oriented, he cited the lack of willingness among the government employees to serve in the remote place as Karnali province.
He pointed out the need to create waves of discussion in the party, saying that the NCP’s aim was to realize socialism.
Likewise, Nepali Congress leader Pradeep Giri blamed that the incumbent government for being influenced by authorities.
According to him, the ward Chair had also started emulating the tendency of Prime Minister centralizing all powers and authorities on him and he spoke of the need to stop it.
