KATHMANDU: Newly appointed controversial chief of Commission for Investigation of Authority Lokman Singh Karki has tried to earn good will from people by seeking clarification from officials involved in the road expansion campaign in the Capital over delays in completing the drive.
Karki, who met officials overseeing the campaign at his office, also demanded that they present a time-bound action plan to wrap-up the campaign. Karki made this attempt to win the hearts of residents of the valley as they have been facing difficulties due to incomplete road expansion drive. The road expansion drive got delayed with the ouster of former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai.
“The commissioner has directed officials to continue work even at night and provide the people relief from dust and dirt,” the commission said in a statement.
The commission has received several complaints about the road expansion drive, Karki told the officials. According to the statement, Chief Commissioner Karki invited the officials concerned for a meeting so that they can rectify their mistakes. While assuming his office on Wednesday, Karki claimed that he would work seriously on the issues related with public. He claimed that he will work to improve the service being provided to the public through public agencies.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal has claimed that the protests against the appointment of Karki as the chief of CIAA would yield nothing.
Addressing a program in the Capital on Thursday, Dahal said that only the court or the upcoming Parliament has the authority to speak on the matter. He also claimed that the situation would have been worse had the president not approved Karki as the CIAA chief.
Karki was appointed to head the constitutional anti-graft body amid widespread protests from several quarters for his direct involvement in suppressing the people’s movement-II 2006. Karki was the chief secretary during the direct rule of then King Gyanendra Shah.
