By Sony Shakya, KATHMANDU:  The participation of Nepali leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane in Caribbean Premier League (CPL), a T20 cricket tournament in the West Indies, remains uncertain.

Lamichhane needs to be in Trinidad and Tobago within a week to be a party of CPL 2020. However, his flight is uncertain as international flights remain closed and will resume only from August 17 as per the government’s latest decision. As a result, his participation in the CPL is not yet certain, his manager Raman Shiwakoti said. “Sandeep has to reach Trinidad and Tobago by August 1,” he said.

According to Shiwakoti, Sandeep could be a part of CPL if the government took the initiative to secure his travel to the West Indies. The Ministry of Youth and Sports well as the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and other concerned government authorities are being requested for the same. Lamichhane has to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine upon reaching Trinidad and Tobago to be eligible to play following the health code.

He has been recruited by the Jamaica Tallawahaj this year for a sum of 130,000 US dollars. This will be the third edition that he will be playing at the CPL, which starts from coming August 18. Six other teams in addition to Jamaica are in the fray in the CPL that will see a total of 33 matches played. However, the tournament will be played in empty stadium due to the Corona Virus.
