Nepal’s Basanta Tharu wins gold medal in South Asian Championship


POKHARA: Nepal’s Basanta Tharu won gold medal in the South Asian Championship underway in Pokhara on Saturday. He finished it in 63 minutes and 58 seconds. Likewise, India’s Lokesh Kumar Babuji bagged silver medal by finishing in 67 minutes and 13 seconds, and Nepal’s Nitesh Manandhar bronze medal by completing in 68 minutes.
In women’s group, India’s Pragnya Mohan and Monika Mukeshbhai Nagpuri won gold and silver medal. Likewise, Nepal’s Sony Gurung claimed bronze medal.
Likewise, Japan’s Makoto Odakura won gold medal in the Asian Cup Triathlon Championship. He completed it (750 meters swimming, 20 kilometers cycling and five kilometers running) in 54 minutes 17 seconds by defeating the total 19 athletes. Likewise, Poland’s Dan Mcintosh claimed silver medal by finishing in 54 minutes and 34 seconds and South Korea’s Je kim koria bronze medal by completing in 55 minutes and 0.2 seconds.
In women’s category, South Korea’s Yu Jin park won gold medal by finishing in one hour two minutes and 56 seconds.
Likewise, Japan’s Konami Yusida bagged silver medal by completing in one hour, three minutes and 51 seconds, and Japan’s Naomi Takamine bronze by finishing in one hour four minutes and 55 seconds.
The tournament was participated in by total 27 athletes (19 men, eight women) from Nepal, Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Poland, Australia, India and Bangladesh.
Chief minister of Gandaki state Prishivi Subba Gurung handed out the awards amid a programme.
