Nepalis students hold rally against rape in Delhi


Nepali students association in Delhi University took out a symbolic rally on Wednesday to protest against the rape of a Nepali girl in Mehrauli, Delhi.

The rally was attended by both Nepali and Indian students. According to Nepali student representative Rajdeep Bhusan Mahat, more then 40 students including 25 Nepalis had participated in the rally.

The rally that began at around 4:30 pm lasted for an hour during which it marched around the university area.

“We organised this rally to express our condemnation against the rape of a Nepali girl and to draw the attention of concerned authorities towards the incidents of rape and insecurities in Delhi,” Mahat told eKantipur.

 A 19-year-old Nepali girl had been gang rape d by five youths at Mehrauli in the south-west of New Delhi on August 24. The legal process against the three male and one female agent arrested in connection with this rape has been initiated. The victim is from Kathmandu, however, other details about her are not yet clearly available.

Councilor Rajendra Man Shrestha, who looks after security matters at the Delhi based Nepali Embassy, said the local police have informed him about the efforts to arrest the other absconding felons.

The local police’s investigation into the rape case filed here with the district court on Monday has been effective and the Embassy is ready for necessary coordination, informed Shrestha.
