Nepali journalist attempts to conduct world’s longest TV talk show


KATHMANDU: In a bid to set world records, a Nepali journalist started the longest television talk show of 60 hours on Thursday by interviewing chairperson of UCPN-Maoist Puspha Kamal Dahal.

Rabi Lamichane started the “Lord Buddha was born in Nepal” program on News24, a national television channel, at 10:34am and expects to end it on April 13 to create a new Guinness world record on the longest talk show .

According to the Guinness World Records, the longest talk show is staged by Pavlo Kuzheyev and Tetiana Danylenko for a 52-hour broadcast to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence in 2011.

On Thursday, Lamichane also interviewed CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal, CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya, CNN Hero Anuradha Koirala, President of All Nepal Football Association Ganesh Thapa and Nepal cricket team Captain Paras Khadka, among others.

According to the Guinness World Records rules, Lamichane will get a break of five minutes after an hour long talk show.

Lamichane is also likely to talk with Nepali people living abroad through Skype. The rule also requires at least 10 live viewers during the entire show.
