Nepali filmmakers together with same voice in favor of Deepa Shree Niroula:”Lets stop obscene Remarks”

“Under freedom of expression, healthy criticism is allowed but offensive words are not allowed to be spoken or written”, by Rekha Thapa

By Dikshya Tiwari, KATHMANDU: Freedom of expression is the backbone of democracy. In constitutional law, it is considered as an essential condition of constitutionalism.

Using this right, actress and director of ‘Chakka Panja’ series Deepashree Niraula questioned Rajesh Hamal’s title of ‘Superhero’. However, her statement was not tolerated by the fans who accepted Hamal as a ‘superhero’.

For the past one week, Deepashree has been being abused on social media. Filmmakers are also divided over whether to call Rajesh Hamal a ‘superhero’. Some are crying in the media saying that the government should give him the title of ‘superhero’. However, some are arguing that how can one be called ‘super-star’ just by playing a lot of movies.

Director Deepashree’s statement, “Who is the superhero?” made Hamal’s fan go crazy enough to rain abusive comments on her. Even after she apologized to his fans, they didn’t stop at all and blamed her for being arrogant after her few movies were hit. Voices have been raised that Hamal himself should call for an end to the mistreatment of her.

Filmmakers have urged to stop such acts as the abuse of Deepashree on social media has not stopped in the controversy of ‘Superhero’. Priyanka Karki, Rekha Thapa, Keki Adhikari, Aakash Adhikari, Pradip Kumar Uday, Kedar Ghimire, Sarita Lamichhane, Kiran KC and others have spoken in favor of Deepashree and said that it is reprehensible to show rudeness.

Actress Priyanka Karki has written status on Facebook mentioning that her attention has been drawn to Deepashree’s controversy. She said that even though the right to raise one’s voice without understanding one’s arguments, feelings, or thoughts is reserved for all, one should not use offensive language and character. She also urged not to tarnish anyone’s character on the basis of false statements.

Artist Kedar Ghimire said that it is not good to use the abusive language after apologizing for mistakes. He also wrote on Facebook, “I also personally apologize to the great hero Rajesh Dada.” Deepa Shree who used to talk positively about Rajesh Dada every time, that day was bad for her. Mistakes are made by people, give them a chance to move forward honestly.

Actress Rekha Thapa has said that those who use vulgar words as if there is no rule of law should think once. She says that under freedom of expression, healthy criticism is allowed but offensive words are not allowed to be spoken or written. Producer Pradip Kumar Uday, on the other hand, said that it was important for the filmmakers to pay attention to the obscene remarks made on Deepashree.

The Film Artists’ Association, an umbrella organization of artists, has condemned the low-level insults and obscene remarks being made against actor and director Deepashree on social media. The association issued a statement on Saturday urging criticism in good and polite language. The association has also appealed to end the root of the dispute by forgetting the disputes and problems that have arisen immediately.
