Nepali Congress President Deuba urges government to intensify activities against COVID-19

Bhishma Raj Ojha, KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged the government to seriously review its work progress made so far to control the COVID-19 and intensify further activities to contain the global pandemic in the country.

“Prevention and control of COVID-19 is our common struggle. Although not in government, NC is equally determined to work together in the campaign against this pandemic,” NC President Deuba reminded, adding that as an old and experienced party in the country, it was ready to assist government in its campaign. The NC leader also urged everyone to internalize the strategies set by the government at this time of crisis.

He urged everyone including party leaders and cadres to honesty implement the lockdown. The campaign launched by government must be made more systemic and effective, Deuba suggested.

Reminding that there were media reports on shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) in various parts across the country, he appealed to the government to immediately ensure the supply of the PPE for medical and health workers for their safety.

High morale of health and medical workers is essential at present time, he said, adding Nepalis have deep respect towards the health workers. “Although the economic package announced by the government was positive, it is not adequate. I appealed to the government to exempt the interest for three months to the entrepreneurs doing business, taking the bank loans of up to Rs two million.”

Even the students staying in rent in city should be provided relief. A separate relief package was needed for media and working journalists. The government is urged to heed the problems of Nepalis abroad including in India via diplomatic channel.

“Practical solution is must to address the problems faced by hundreds of Nepalis stranded beyond Dharchula,” he reminded. Even the problems of migrant Nepalis in Gulf countries needs equal attention, Deuba added. RSS
