N24 Correspondent, KATHMANDU:- The activities of the General Convention have increased in the Nepali Congress. As the date of the General Convention draws near, factional discussions in Congress have intensified. Senior Leaders of Nepali Congress Ram Chandra Poudel faction have also been holding internal discussions since this morning.
One of the leaders said that they had discussed about active membership, unanimous selection of candidates from their group at the general convention along with the sit-in of the district president.
During the discussion held at the residence of former General Minister Prakash Man Singh at Chaksiwari in Thamel, senior leader Poudel, General Secretary Dr. Shashank Koirala, Central Members Arjun Narasimha KC, Dr. Shekhar Koirala, Bal Bahadur KC, Dr. Minendra Rijal, Dilendra Prasad Badul and others are present.
As the number of aspirants for the chairmanship in the Poudel group is high, the leaders are holding continuous discussions to reach a consensus. Even two days ago, there was a dialogue between them for unanimous leadership selection. Similarly, district chairpersons of Poudel faction are in agitation demanding to make active membership public. They had staged a sit-in at the party office in Sanepa on Tuesday and will start a hunger strike from Wednesday.
The 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress is being held in Kathmandu in the second week of November. The ward convention for the Central General Convention to be held from 9 to 13 November is starting from 18 September. Congress has not yet decided on active membership.
