Nepali Congress opposed constitutional bodies appointments

KATHMANDU:- The main opposition Nepali Congress has opposed the appointments to the constitutional bodies.

Amid the controversy, President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday appointed officials of constitutional bodies on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council.

Despite opposition from Congress leaders, the party did not make a formal statement. In a statement issued on Friday, Congress leader Bishwaprakash Sharma said that the government has been trampling on the provisions, essence, and method of the Constitutional Council from the very beginning.

Though the leaders of the main opposition party, the Nepali Congress, opposed the appointments to the constitutional bodies, the party did not make a formal statement.

In a statement issued on Friday, Nepali Congress spokesperson Bishwaprakash Sharma said that the government has been violating the provisions and rules provided in the constitution regarding the Constitutional Council.

Stating that the Nepali Congress stood against the unconstitutional move of the government, spokesperson Sharma said in a statement, “Whether it is a move to issue an ordinance or a subsequent meeting or the last swearing-in.” As a result of arrogance and conflict, our struggle against the dictatorship-oriented tendency to act contrary to the spirit of the constitution continues and will continue.”
