The quake was felt in Kathmandu Lalitpur, Bhaktpur, Kavre and other districts of Nepal. The quake at the midnight created panic among the city dwellers as Kathmandu Valley is the most prone to earthquake risk. Many people came out of their house and stayed outside for a long time after the first shock hit with the fear that there might be another quake. A resident of Shankhamul Archana Sharma says, “I was about to sleep after study when the earthquake rocked then I immediately ran out of my house. This is the first quake I realized and shocked. I could not sleep for a long time with the fear that another quake might hit.”
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, a 5.0-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 17:49:23 UTC with its epicentre at Western Xizang of China. The epicentre is about 330 km * north of the Nepali capital, and 206 km northeast of Jumla. Two shocks hit in an interval of 15 mins. First one was very strong it came up with small indicative shocks and later jolt strongly and scarily.
The earthquake of September 2011 has caused heavy loss in some districts of Eastern Nepal and bordering Indian town.
