Nepal makes a winning start in Int Karate Competition


Neera Gautam, PATNA, INDIA: Nepal made a winning start with a gold medal in the International Open Karate and Kick Boxing competition ongoing in Bihar State of India today.
At the event being held at Pataliputra Sports Complex at Patna, Nepal’s Rupa Rana won gold medal in the inaugural game of Kata. India’s Anjali Kumari and Anita Kumari won silver and bronze respectively.
Rana, who is from Guruwakot in Surkhet, had also won a gold medal in a match held at Pune of India.
More matches of other games will be played on Wednesday. Altogether 221 sportsperson from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh and host India are taking part in the competition, according to All India Karate Federation President Raju Thapa.
A team of 26 Nepali athletes and nine officials from Nepal are taking part in the competition. Rupa Rana, Dil Maya Koirala, Bipin Rana, Santu Tharu, Aman Soti Magar, Chiring Gurung, Dil Bahadur Budhathoki and Sandeep Chaudhary will vie in the competition in different group and weight categories.
Other athletes are Suman Pariyar, Sandeep Chaudhary, Shivanee Basnet, Bipin Gurung, Sunil Rawal, Roshan Rana, Isha Saru, Arkriti Rana, Priyanka Thapa, Shahil gurung, Jivan Pun, Milan Shreesha, Prasun Shahi, Saroj Chettri, Aditya Chettri, Bibek Sen Thakuri, Gaurav Poudel and Amisha Pokharel. RSS
