Nepal Government prepares to issue guidelines to control social media

N24 Staff Writer, KATHMANDU:- The Government of Nepal is preparing to bring guidelines to regulate and control social media and online media.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is going to bring guidelines to control online media in particular.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung informed that such a directive is being brought to make the media and media personnel accountable.

Minister Gurung said, “We are preparing to issue guidelines 2077 on social media to prevent the distortion of some media such as Facebook, YouTube, and online without registering in the name of enjoying freedom.”

The directive is being brought saying that the wrongdoings of the government in the name of freedom of expression, criticism of the President and the court are also being criticized.

Communications Minister Gurung said, “It is regrettable that the media is attacking the democratic system established after a long conflict, spreading violence and pushing the country towards confrontation and making it public.”
