‘Nepal Government extends lockdown till June 14’

KATHMANDU:- The lockdown imposed by the government to stem the spread of coronavirus is to extend till June 14. The deadline of the stay-at-home order extended lately was until the midnight of June 2.
The government has decided to extend the lockdown on the recommendation of the High-level Committee to Prevent and Control COVID-19.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada, who is also the government’s spokesman, said that a meeting of the Council of Ministers held at the Prime Minister’s residence at Baluwatar today decided to extend the lockdown till June 14.
Similarly, the Cabinet meeting has decided to close the international border transit points and the international airport until June 30.
Minister Khatiwada said the movement through the border transit would be made stringent and a decision has been made to collaborate with neighbouring country for abiding the World Health Organisation (WHO) standards in the cross-border movements.
He said the Council of Ministers will decide regarding the modality of the lockdown and its duration based on the recommendation of the High level Committee.
Similarly, the Security Council meeting today discussed as to how the security bodies could be mobilized to address the international risk and challenges related to the international border dispute and COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Khatiwada said.
“Discussions have also been held on the topic especially regarding intensifying the Armed Police Force (APF)’s patrol adding human resources and mobilizing the APF and Nepal Police more for this in order to check the cross-border activities and people’s movement at the border areas more stringently,” he said.
