KATHMANDU:- Shankar Das Bairagi has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal. Similarly, former Finance Minister Dr. Yuvaraj Khatiwada has been recommended to be appointed Nepal’s Ambassador to the United States.
A cabinet meeting held on Thursday accepted the resignation of Chief Secretary Lokdarshan Regmi on Wednesday and decided to appoint Bairagi as the new chief secretary, said a member of the cabinet.
Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, Mohan Krishna Sapkota and others were claimants for the post of Chief Secretary.
Chief Secretary Regmi, who will retire on November 19 after completing his three-year term, had resigned two weeks ago.
The cabinet has recommended that Regmi be appointed ambassador to the United Kingdom. There is a legal provision that the appointment of ambassadors will be made by the President after the completion of the parliamentary hearing process.
Former Finance Minister Dr. Khatiwada was made the government’s chief economic adviser shortly after his term ended.
