Nepal Embrace Heroic Comeback


Nepal U16 team find a last minute grasp as Nepal end up 1-1 with the defending champions Uzbekistan in their first match played at Muangthong Stadium, Bangkok. Kiran Sunar scored the equalizer in last minute of added time that helped Nepal to share points with Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan remained the superior side in the opening 10 minutes as they possessed some attacks in the initial period. Nepal displayed improved performance thereafter making the contest wide open for both sides. The first attack from Nepal came in 12th minute when Anjan Bista’s shot from inside of the box went just wide of the far post.

Uzbekistan had their first serious attack in 15th minute, however Roman was able to make a good save blocking Kurbonov’s shot from a tight angle.

Nepal created few more chances from the flank, Kiran leading the midfield, however the lone striker Anjan was just not enough to cover every place in opponent’s box.

The second half had most of the contest in the game with both goals coming in the later half of the game. Ananta Tamang was yellow carded in a controversial decision from Chinese referee Tan Hai who awarded a spot kick that awarded Uzbekistan the lead in the 53rd minutes.

Nepal continued their effort, however the equalizer came only in the final minute of the added time, with Kiran Sunar scoring in a free kick delivered from Anjan Bista in the forth minute of the added time.

With a victory, Nepal shared a single point with the defending champions awaiting Kuwait on 9th September.
