Nepal beats Singapore by 49 runs


KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated Singapore by 49 runs in its second match at the ongoing ACC U-16 Premiere league cricket tournament being held in Malaysia on Friday.

“All captains winning the toss this morning put their opponents in after yesterday´s thunderous rain. Singapore made a good start but lost their way as Nepal fought back to win by 49 runs,” Facebook status of ACC page said.

”  Malaysia cruised to a five-wicket win over Oman and Bahrain beat Thailand. The next round of matches is on Sunday,” the status further added.

Batting first, Nepal’s top order crumbled down soon. Nepal lost four wickets just to put 12 runs on board. The partnership between skipper Sumit Maharjan and Pranit Thapa rescued Nepali inning helping to post a decent target of 143 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

Maharjan high scored for Nepal with 41 runs while Thapa contributed much needed 32 runs.

Although Singapore started brilliantly making 31 runs in 10 overs without loss, its downfall started as it lost three wickets in consecutive three overs. Singaporean middle order couldn’t do much as Nepal bundled them out within 35.2 overs with just 94 runs.

Nepali off-spinner Pawan Saraf sent four important Singaporean batsmen back to pavilion just giving away 12 runs in his 4-over spell.
