KATHMANDU: Nepal has won an honorable mention in the 60th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in the United Kingdom in July. Kartikesh Mishra who participated in the competition from Nepal bagged the award.
Other five Nepalis—Prajit Adhikari, Saurav Koju, Dikshyanta Dulal, Saurav Bastola and Pratik Bhandari also took part in the competition. A total of 114 countries represented in the competition.
Pitambar Acharya was deputy leader for the Nepali team and Prof Dr Bhadra Man Tuladhar and Nirula Tamrakar were supervisors. Started from 1959, Nepal first started participating in the IMO from 2017 with its first representation in its 58th edition in Brazil.
The Mathematics Olympiad of Nepal under the Mathematical Association of Nepal (MAN) selected the first 100 students from various 40 districts of Nepal for the competition. Thereafter the selected students trained for free on this respective fields with the help of the International Mathematical Excellence Company.
“Nepal’s this achievement from the competition has encouraged us. We will do our best in the next competition to be held in Russia in July,” said Dipak Bastola, president of the MAN. The selection process for the next competition would start from mid-August, he added.
