By N24 Correspondent, KATHMANDU:- The ongoing dispute of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has spilled over at the province level, as Chief Minister for Province 1 Sherdhan Rai has dismissed his Finance and Planning Minister Indra Angbo from his respective post.
Chief Minister Rai’s press adviser Dhruba Subedi informed this to media on Saturday, December 26, 2020.
In the 93-member state assembly of Province 1, NCP has a clear majority of 67 seats, of which Nepal-Dahal faction has 47 members and Oli faction has 20 members.
Chief Minister Rai was from the Oli faction, while Finance Minister Angbo was from Nepal-Dahal faction of the NCP.
Meanwhile, Angbo has said he would register a “no trust motion” against Chief Minister Rai at the state assembly on Sunday.
“Mr. Chief Minister has made it easy for me to register a no trust resolution at the state assembly. I would do the needful on Sunday,” Angbo said, as he talked with media personnel on Saturday.
On Friday, a similar no trust motion was registered in Bagmati Province against Chief Minister Dormani Poudel.
NCP has 80 members in the Bagmati Province state assembly, while no trust motion was registered by 45 of the 80 NCP members.
Asta Laxmi Shakya has been proposed as the new chief minister by the 45 members, while they were also attempting to garner support from chief opposition Nepali Congress in forming a new state government.
In Gandaki Province, Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung, however, has been vocal in not splitting NCP as per the split at the central level.
“Despite split at the federal level, NCP governments at the state levels should not split. We should make efforts to this end,” said Chief Minister Gurung.
Among the seven provinces, NCP has formed majority governments in six provinces. Only in Province 2, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) has formed a government, while Nepali Congress is in opposition in all seven states.
