NC President starts six-day long visit to India


KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has embarked a six-day high-level political visit to India from Sunday at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

During the visit, the NC President is scheduled to meet Indian PM Singh, leader of United Progressive Alliance Sonia Gandhi, Minister for External Affairs Salman Khursid, among other political leaders. This is Koirala’s first official visit to India since he assumed the post of the President of the Nepali Congress.

Koirala was not happy with the Indian government after it invited senior leader of the party Sher Bahadur Deuba for official visit to India ahead of Koirala. Koirala is visiting India after UCPN-Maoist chairperson Prachand, Senior Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and Senior leader of CPN-Maoist Madhav Kumar Nepal. India is inviting leaders of major political parties and receiving information about political situation of the country and upcoming elections of the constituent assembly.

Talking to reporters at the Tribhuvan International Airport, President Koirala said it would be a goodwill visit and expressed confidence of receiving cooperation and support of India in successfully holding the CA elections in Nepal.

President Koirala is accompanied by party general secretaries Prakash Man Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula. He is also scheduled to visit Bihar and Uttar Pradesh states of India and meet their Chief Ministers.

India is giving high priority to the visit of NC President Koirala. Indian External Affairs Ministry has posted the program of Koirala’s visit at its website.
