KATHMANDU: As the major political parties have been preparing for the elections of the constituent assembly, they still have to settle out differences among themselves. The political parties have started distributing rosy promises to people of different groups to attract votes in the upcoming elections of the constituent assembly.
Addressing a program in Capital on Saturday, Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has said that an autonomous Madhes state as said by the UCPN-Maoist will not be acceptable to his party. Koirala made this statement a day after UCPN-Maoist decided to constitute an autonomous Madhes state as part of their strategy for the upcoming polls.
“No matter what states they make during formulating election strategy, we will not approve single autonomous Madhes state when we go into federalism,” he added.
The NC President made it clear that his party was in favor of constituting separate states in Madhes. “Let us discuss, we could have 5/6 states,” said Koirala, adding,” Even our friends from Tarai are not in favour of one Madhes.”
He said that efforts were underway to woo the poll-opposing parties into the process of election.
