NC President blames Maoist for delaying the CA poll; Koirala’s statement draws flak within party

CHITWAN: As the major leaders of the four major political parties have started exchanging blame to each other for the delay in the elections of the constituent assembly, President of Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala has accused that the UCPN-Maoist is responsible for the delay in the announcement of the Constituent Assembly poll date.

President Koirala, who left Kathmandu avoiding the meeting of the High Level Political Mechanism, said that the Maoist’s dual nature has hindered the chances of the nation finding an outlet to the current political stalemate.

He also claimed that the earlier CA could not deliver the constitution because of the UCPN-Maoist.  The NC President reached Chitwan today to address a mass gathering organized by the party at Gitanagar in the district.

However Nepali Congress has witnessed internal dispute after party president Sushil Koirala suggested interim government chairman Khil Raj Regmi to resign as the Chief Justice.

“Asking Regmi to resign as the Chief Justice makes no sense at the moment,” NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi said while speaking to reporters in Dhanusha Tuesday. Nidhi said that Regmi’s resignation as CJ won’t help build election environment, as argued by Koirala.

Similarly, NC vice president Ram Chandra Poudel has also opposed the idea of making Regmi resign from the top post of the judiciary. Poudel had contradicted Koirala at the meeting between Regmi and the members of the four-party high-level political mechanism (HLPC) on Sunday. Following the pressure even from his own party, NC President Koirala skipped the meeting of the meeting of HLPC.
