KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has discussed the six-day India visit of party President Sushil Koirala and the ongoing talks being held among the dissenting political parties.
The meeting decided that the party is not ready to discuss the postponement of the November 19 elections with the disgruntled political parties, but some of their demands could be considered. However, the party is open to discussion on some of the demands including increasing the proportional seats in the Constituent Assembly, NC leader Arjun Narsingh K.C told reporters after the meeting.
According to senior leader of the party Sher Bahadur Deuba, the meeting also discussed how all political parties could be incorporated in the electoral process and their participation ensured in the coming Constituent Assembly elections.
According to him, the 11-point and 25-point agreements between the four major parties could be amended in order to adjust the issues raised by the disgruntled parties.
“We want all parties’ participation in CA election. For this, the party could exercise flexibility. But, the demand of the agitating CPN-Maoist party for the postponement of election was impossible,” he stressed.
During the meeting, President Koirala informed the NC leaders about his India visit. He said that India was for timely election, peace, development and multi-party democracy in Nepal. Koirala informed that the visit became fruitful to strengthen ties between the party and the Indian government.
