NC condemns Maoist attack in party program; accuses the party of abducting its cadre

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has condemned the attack of UCPN-Maoist in a program organized by NC in Rukum district, which was attended by Central Leader Gagan Thapa. NC has also accused that UCPN-Maoist abducted its cadre, who joined the party in Rukum yesterday after defecting UCPN-Maoist.

Maoist tried to disrupt the program after nearly a dozen party cadres including some foreign combatants joined the UCPN-Maoist. A press statement issued by Chief Secretary of NC Chin Kaji Shrestha accused the UCPN-Maoist of abducting Jeevan KC, who joined NC amid a program in Rukum yesterday.

The NC described the attack as premeditated, offensive and violent activity that left scores of its cadres hurt. The party further urged the authorities to do the needful to free K.C. from the Maoist clutch and book the culprits.

UCPN-Maoist cadres had stormed a NC gathering in Garaila, Rukum and vandalized the stage on Sunday. The Maoist cadres had also tried to attack NC leader Gagan Thapa, who was attending the function as the chief guest. He was guarded by a group of Congress activists and walked out unscathed. The Maoist activists had later hurled stones at the vehicle carrying Thapa.

The NC has accused the police of inaction and indifference though they were aware of the possible attack by the Maoist cadres.
