National News Agency photojournalist Shrestha feted

KATHMANDU: Photojournalist at the National News Agency (RSS), Ratna Krishna Shrestha, has been feted with Maiyadevi Memorial Journalism Award.
In a function organized by the Federation of Nepalis Journalists (FNJ) Bhaktapur chapter on the occasion of its 22nd Annual General Assembly recently, senior photojournalist Shrestha received honour as well as cash prize worth Rs 2,300. Shrestha added additional Rs 5,000 in the cash prize and handed over the total amount to the FNJ Bhaktapur chapter as a support for the construction of its own building. Also feted in the programme was another journalist Kabir Rana. He was honoured with Bhagwan Maharjan Memorial Journalism Award and received a cash prize worth Rs 10,000.
On the occasion, former President of the FNJ Harihar Birahi asserted that the government should not put democracy, press freedom and freedom of speech at risk. Likewise, Vice-President Dilip Thapamagar warned that it would not be acceptable if anyone infringes on freedom of press and speech that is enshrined in the preamble of the constitution of Nepal.
Similarly, FNJ General-Secretary Ramesh Bista shared that the FNJ had been playing an active role in securing welfare of the journalists as well as the organizational welfare of the FNJ which is an umbrella organization of the journalists in the country. The progress report presented by the FNJ Bhaktapur chapter’s secretary Krishna Prasad Nepal and the financial report submitted by treasurer Mohan Balla were unanimously approved by the close session of the AGM.
