Narayan Khadka appointed foreign minister, leaving US today to attend the UNGA

According to Khadka's personal secretary Leela Bhattarai, Khadka will be sworn in at the President's Office shortly. After taking the oath, he will go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and be reinstated.

N24 Correspondent, KATHMANDU:- Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is preparing to appoint a foreign minister today.

Member of Parliament Narayan Khadka, who has been leading the Foreign Department of the Nepali Congress, is set to be sworn in as Foreign Minister today.

At a meeting of the ruling coalition on Tuesday, it was agreed that the foreign ministry would be retained by Nepali Congress.

Nepali Congress General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka, who participated in the coalition meeting, said that there was no dispute over the appointment of the foreign minister, and a unanimous decision was taken in the coalition.

According to Khadka’s personal secretary Leela Bhattarai, Khadka will be sworn in at the President’s Office shortly. After taking the oath, he will go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and be reinstated.

A source in the President’s Office also said that preparations are being made for the swearing-in of the minister but the time has not come yet.

Khadka is scheduled to leave for the United States this evening, leading a Nepali delegation to the UN General Assembly. A Foreign Ministry source said that all preparations have been completed for the team including Khadka to go to the United States.

“A team including Minister Khadka is preparing to leave for the United States by his evening, if not this tomorrow morning,” a foreign source told N24. Accompanied by the Foreign Minister, Secretary Bharatraj Poudel, the Head of the UN Headquarters and other officials are going to New York.
