Mother jumps into canal along with two children


SUNSARI: Yet in another case of suicide attempt, a 22-year-old woman along with her two children jumped into a canal of Koshi river of Sunsari district on Monday afternoon.

The woman, identified as Radhika Bhattarai jumped into the canal with her one-year-old infant Bhumika and three-year-old son Sujan. Police recovered the dead body of her daughter Bhumika while her son Sujan has gone missing.

Mother was rescued in an unconscious condition and rushed to Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences. The reason behind the suicide is not yet known, police said.

DSP Laxman Giri of District Police Office, Sunsari informed that she is suffering from mental retardation. He said she must have jumped into the canal due to her illness and poor financial condition, but said police is investigating the case to find the truth about the incident. There has been rise in the incidents of suicide by parents along with their children due to extremely poverty.
