Missing flood and landslide victims announced dead


SURKHET- The persons who went missing in the floods and landslides that ravaged the district in mid-August have been declared as dead.

At least 49 persons unaccounted for were declared dead. The persons were out of contact for at least two weeks following three days’ incessant rain that resulted in massive flooding and landslides. The families of those who went missing had started carrying out funeral rituals speeding up the announcement, according to Catastrophe Management Committees of various VDCs of the district.

In the landslide and flooding at least 34 people have died and 94 still missing, District Police Office Surkhet informed.

The dead have already been identified. The families of the missing lot have given up hopes that their relatives would return. They have already carried out funeral rituals, according to Amarsi Tamta of Galfa, Tatapani.

The Local Catastrophe Management Committee in agreement with the relatives and family members of the missing made the annoucenment and sent recommendation for relief in the capacity, according to Dil Bahadur Ghimire, Chief District Officer, Surkhet.
