SAPTARI: A teenage girl in Saptari, South-east Nepal has accused her ex boyfriend of raping her.
The 17-year old girl lodged a police complaint against Bharat Lal Mehta, 25, on May 19, accusing him of tricking her into a sexual relationship by promising to marry her.
Mehta allegedly impregnated the girl but later refused to marry her. He married other girl behind the victim’s back.
The District Police Office, Sunsari informed that Mehta was at large but they were actively searching for him.
The police office informed that the girl was 7-month pregnant. Her health check-up conducted at the Inaruwa Hospital when she filed the complaint. As per the police, the delay in filing the complaint was because she was waiting for him to marry her.
In an another similar incident, a 14-year-old girl became pregnant from rape in Sunsari. Kalam Miya, 35, and Rahis Miya, 40, of Gadhi Rural Municipality – 1, allegedly lured the girl with the promise of toys and took turns raping her while she was attending the Siruwa festival on April 17.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gyanendra Phuyal said that the family of the girl tried to keep the incident under wraps for a month but finally filed a police complaint on May 17 after discovering that the girl was pregnant.
The two suspects are still at large but DSP Phuyal said that the police was looking for them and investigating the whole incident.
