Ministry of Foreign Affairs resumes election of Non-Resident Nepali Association

KATHMANDU:- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has again suspended the tenth International General Convention and Election of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA). The union had announced a date for new elections on December 15. However, arguing that the current working committee should not hold the election as per the constitution, the ministry has directed to hold the tenth international convention only through the Guardian Council and not by the current working committee.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this in a letter to the NRNA International Coordinating Council on 3 November. On the same day, the association announced a new date. The Ministry has written a letter to resolve the disputes in the Union and conclude the tenth International General Assembly of the Union by 2021 only through the Guardian Council constituted in accordance with Article 16 of the Constitution.
NRNA president Kumar Pant has responded by saying that the foreign directive is a direct political interference and will go to legal battle. He also said that the tenure of his NRN has been extended as per the constitution. Stating that there was political interference in the union, he said that he would not follow the directive against the constitution under any circumstances. He has also expressed his commitment to hold the election on time.
These are the instructions given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

In Article 16.1.4 of the constitution of the association, if the International Coordinating Council remains inactive or a situation arises in which the organization is divided due to a highly disputed organization, it seems that the Guardian Council will protect the organization. Therefore, in order to give dynamism to the association by resolving the disputes seen in the association, it is requested to do the following in accordance with sub-rule 2 of rule 16 of the Non-Resident Nepali Rules, 2066, as per the decision of this Ministry dated 2078-8-03.
1. As the term of the current International Coordinating Council has come to an end, the council should not do anything that would have a far-reaching effect on the organization.

2. Recognize the delegates to the General Convention recommended by the present National Coordinating Council in accordance with the prevailing practice of the past regarding the 65 percent delegates to be elected as per clause c of Article 13.7 of the Constitution of the Union.

3. To resolve the current disputes in the Union and conclude the tenth International General Assembly of the Union by 2021 only through the Guardian Council constituted in accordance with Article 16 of the Constitution.
