Minister Poudel vows to continue investigation of Adhikari’s murder; Maoist leader claims he was murdered as per party policy

DOLAKHA: Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Poudel has claimed that nobody can exert pressure on the government to stop investigation into the case of Krishna Prasad Adhikari, who was murdered after abduction in Chitwan by the Maoists in 2004 during the period of insurgency.

Speaking at a program organized in Dolakha district on Wednesday, Minister Poudel, also the government spokesperson, made it clear that investigation into Adhikari murder case will go ahead. He made such remark following the call of UCPN-Maoist chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal to the government not to enter into the war-time cases. Prachanda on Tuesday warned that the process of investigation may affect the peace process of the country.

Nineteen-year-old Adhikari was abducted from Bakulahar Chowk, Ratna Nagar Municipality, in Chitwan on June 2004 by the Maoists and killed the next day. Following threats from the Maoists, Adhikari’s family had to flee their hometown of Fujel VDC in Gorkha.

Adhikari’s parents–Nanda Prasad Adhikari and Gangamaya Adhikari have been staging a fast-unto-death at the Bir Hospital demanding the government promptly investigate the case of their son.

The government had directed the Police Headquarters for proceeding investigation into the murder of Adhikari following pressure from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The District Police Chief and Chief District Officer of Chitwan informed that they are consulting the District Attorney to investigate into the case.

The government had postponed the case at a time when the investigation on it was going on saying a Truth and Reconciliation Commission would be constituted to look after the cases for the incidents occurred during the national insurgency.

Meanwhile, the then Maoist secretary of Chitwan district on Wednesday said that Adhikari was murdered as per the plan of the party.

Then Maoist Chitwan district secretary, Yam Bahadur Pariyar ‘Indrajit’ has said that Adhikari’s murder was executed as per the party’s plan and ruled out the possibility of finding the culprit and tried not to disclose the identity.

He said the incident took place during the Maoist insurgency and that it would not be possible to know the whereabouts of those involved in the murder. He claimed that a lot of murder incidents took place during insurgency and Krishna was one of those killed.
