Meen Bham’s ‘Cold Year’ wins 16.5 million in Taiwan


KATHMANDU:-  The new film ‘A Year of Cold’, to be made by ‘Kalo Pothi’ famed director Meen Bahadur Bham, has won 2.5 million (16.5 million) from the Taiwanese Film Commission of Taiwan. On October 25, films from Nepal, USA, France, Malaysia and Bangladesh were announced to receive 2.5 million in Taipei Film Fund.

Along with Nepal, France, Turkey and Norway will also have joint investment in the ‘cold year’. The film had earlier won a Norwegian award of 6684,000 at the Cannes Film Festival, 75,000 from the Twelve Punto Script Lab and 6,000 at the 2018 Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. The film has also won funds at the CineFoundation Residence, Busan Festival.

The film tells the story of a Tibetan woman (Pema) struggling to find a husband. She is pregnant. After losing her husband, she sets out with her Buddhist monk Karma in search of a husband, and her life changes during the journey. The ‘cold year’ was declared in the year 2074 BS. The film ‘Kalo Pothi’ directed by Meen Bahadur Bham had earlier won many international awards.
