Medical desk at TIA to screen Ebola


KATHMANDU: As Ebola virus has posed a threat of pandemic, Nepal will set up a medical desk at the Tribhuvan International Airport, the only international airport in the country, to screen all arrivals from the countries that have witnessed the disease, and take other precautionary measures to control it. A meeting of high-level officials, including the secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Minister, and other concerned officials of Ministry of Health and Population, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Department of Health Service, today discussed the potential spread of Ebola in Nepal and measures to prevent it. According to the decision made today, the medical desk at TIA will contain at least one medical doctor, and the passengers coming from countries like Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea will have to go through medical check to pass through the Nepali immigration. Also, further medical and laboratory tests as well as treatment will be provided to the suspected cases at the Bir Hospital and the Teku-based Shukraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital. According to World Health Organization(WHO), the death toll inflicted by the Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa since February reached 1,013 and the number of people infected totaled 1,848.
