Maoist secretary Gurung says they will sit for talks with certain condition

KATHMANDU: One day after CPN-Maoist has announced the talks team for holding talks with the government and High Level Political Committee (HLPC), the cross party task force formed to support the Chief Justice led election government, CPN-Maoist Secretary Dev Gurung has said that his party is ready to sit for talks on certain conditions.

Speaking at a program in Capital on Tuesday, Gurung said that the government and HLPC should fulfill certain condition for talks. Gurung, who is one of the members of the CPN-Maoist talks team, said, “The four parties have said that other than the annulment of the incumbent election government and the slated Constituent Assembly polls for November 19, we are free to set conditions on other things.”

The former Minister said that the 25-point order issued by the President for clearing the constitutional hurdles has to be corrected if his party sits for conditional talks. However, the government led by Chief Justice Khil Raj Sharma was formed as per the 25-point decree issued by the President.

He added that a sovereign and all-powerful Constituent Assembly should be formed if the parties wanted to draft a new constitution through CA. If the big parties continue to hanker after power and act as per the directions of the ‘foreign powers’, there is no use of holding the election and forming the CA, he added.

CPN-Maoist chair Mohan Baidya has left for China on Monday evening itself after announcing the talks team. Political analysts have been saying that the announcement of talk team by the CPN-Maoist is a ploy to deceive the general public who are in favor of election and expressing rage over their plan to oppose the poll.
