Maoist leadership ready for mass meeting aimed at countering opposition


KATHMANDU: The final preparation for the grand mass meeting of the ruling UCPN (Maoist) scheduled for Friday in the capital is almost completed, the party leaders said.

The establishment faction of the Maoist party is organizing the grand mass meeting in an apparent show of strength just a week after the opposition parties organized a mass meeting in the capital.

Maoist politburo member Hisila Yami said the party decided to organize the mass meeting to protest the obstruction of the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) for federalism with identity and constitution with federalism.

According to leader Yami, at least 100,000 people would participate in the mass meeting from party’s Newa: State Committee and Tamsaling State Committee.

The ruling Maoist party has deployed cadres of different sister organizations to make the mass meeting a grand success.

Yami said that rallies would be started from Koteshwor, Balaju, Kalanki, Kalimati, New Road, Chabahil, Marajgunj, Samakhusi and other sites.

She said that the party has urged one and all from indigenous communities, women, Dalit, suppressed region, class among others.

Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Vice-chairman and Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai and other central leaders are scheduled to address the mass meeting.
