Madhesi people empower through the amendment of the constitution: Mahanta Thakur

N24 Correspondent, BIRGUNJ:- Chairman of the Democratic Socialist Party of Nepal, Mahanta Thakur, has said that the agitation will continue until the Madhesi people are empowered through the amendment of the constitution.

On the sixth memorial day of martyr Shatrudhan Patel in Pakhamainpur village on Sunday, he said that the right of self-government should be given in Madhes. ‘The constitution does not give such a right. Therefore, the amendment of the constitution is the demand of our movement. ’

He said that the government had discriminated against the leaders and cadres of the Madhes movement by filing cases against them.

‘Maoist people’s war broke out in Nepal, thousands of people were killed. Can you tell me if any of their leaders are in jail? ‘He asked,’ Why take action against the leaders and activists of the Madhes movement which was peaceful? Why are they still in jail, still dating? ‘

He said that the investigation into the Tikapur and Jaleshwor incidents during the Madhes movement was carried out out of revenge.

‘Madhesi protesters did not take up arms. Those accused of killing thousands of people who took up arms were acquitted of all charges, some to become prime minister, some to become speaker. What crime have the people of Madhes committed, should they be prosecuted? ‘He asked.

Thakur complained that even though the citizenship bill has been registered for three years, it has been stalled instead of being presented and passed in the parliament. He said that even the courts have been discriminating against Madhesis.

Speaking on the occasion, leader Rajendra Mahato said that a decisive movement was still needed in the country.

“A decisive movement will be carried out by all together. The Tharu Madhesis will fight the final battle, not separately, but as one.
