KATHMANDU:- News doing rounds in various media outlets about one M Adhikari, member of CPN (UML)’s Economic and Planning Department being the governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank, figured in the meeting of the five-party ruling alliance here today.
Ruling Nepali Congress (NC) spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat shared, the meeting convened at official residence of Prime Minister at Baluwatar, discussed the matter related to M Adhikari supposedly being the Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank that was all over media currently.
According to spokesperson Dr Mahat, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba during the meeting expressed that if that M Adhikari was the Governor of the central bank, it was a serious cause for concern because, the PM argued, the Nepal Rastra Bank Act mandates that any person affiliated to any political parties could not preside over the central bank.
The leaders of coalition partners also raised concerns on the same issue in the meeting, informed Dr Mahat, calling for a need for further discussion on this ‘serious’ issue.
“The issue has been raised seriously in the meeting. If M Adhikari is the governor, he should pave a path by tendering resignation and this is what the coalition partners have also viewed in the meeting,” Dr Mahat said.
The meeting also dwelled on extension of term of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappeared Persons Nepal presented by Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Govinda Sharma Koirala.
