BHAKTAPUR: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has warned of action against those who betrayed party candidates in the elections. The defeat in the elections was because of the betrayal of one leader to another within the party, he reminded, reiterating the need of unity in the party to emerge victorious in the upcoming by-election.
President Deuba was saying this during the two-day orientation organized by Central Policy, Research and Training Academy of the party here Friday.
“Democracy does not thrive in the country where citizens are not allowed to express their views,” he said, adding that NC was protesting the bad activities of the government and raising voice from street to parliament. The President accused the present government of imposing totalitarianism.
On the occasion, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, however, blamed the party leadership that it failed to protest the wrong activities of the government.”The government has been packing every constitutional body with its loyal ones, but the NC did not raise voice against it, and failed to frustrate government efforts,” he added.
According to him, the country follows right track once the NC corrects itself. NC was in dire need of democratization, he stressed.
The senior leader said the government had not been successful.
On the occasion, Vice President and Academy Chief Bimalendra Nidhi said the leaders need to stop blaming each other and link the party to people.
General Secretary Dr Sashank Koirala also stressed unity within the party.
