KATHMANDU:- Today’s first meeting of the House of Representatives (HOR) was obstructed by the lawmakers of opposition NC and Dahal-Nepal faction of Nepal Communist Party (NCP). The meeting taken place after the restoration of parliament was obstructed following the disputes on whether or not to table the ordinances issued by the government in different times in the meeting.
The Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Dahal-Nepal faction had objected after Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota made preparations to table the ordinances in the meeting. After the protest of the faction, Speaker Sapkota had provided time to lawmaker Bhim Rawal for deliberation. Speaking at the House meeting, Rawal said that presenting the ordinances instead of passing condolence motion over the demise of former lawmakers who contributed to restore democracy and establish republic system in the country was a wrong move. After Rawal’s announcement, the lawmakers from Dahal-Nepal faction skipped the House meeting. On the other, lawmaker Khagaraj Adhikari took exception to the trend of tabling the ordinances in the very first meeting of the House session and drew attention of the House Speaker. Similarly, Nepali Congress whip Pushpa Bhusal said that the ordinances issued by the government could not be accepted.
Seconding the views of Bhusal, chief whip of Nepali Congress Bal Krishna Khand urged the government to withdraw ordinances as they were irrelevant. After the remarks of Khand, Dahal-Nepal faction lawmaker and NC lawmakers obstructed the House meeting and walked out of Parliament as the House meeting was underway when Speaker had granted permission to Law Minister Leela Nath Shrestha to table the ordinances. The next meeting of parliament is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Wednesday.
